Where to park the car at the Vienna Naschmarkt?
Since the Naschmarkt stretches along the Linke and Rechte Wienzeile in the 6th district (Mariahilf) and the edge of the 4th district (Wieden), it is located right in the heart of Vienna’s short-term parking zone. Consequently, parking at the Naschmarkt always comes with a fee—whether you park on the street or in a parking garage. Before the Naschmarkt renovation, there was a parking lot directly at the market; however, this no longer exists as it has been replaced by the “Naschpark.” As a result, these are your remaining options for parking near the Naschmarkt:
Option 1: On-Street Parking (Short-Term Parking Zone)
If you intend to park on the street, you need to be aware that you are in a designated short-term parking zone (covering districts 4, 5, and 6). This means parking fees apply everywhere, and the duration is strictly limited. Here are the most important rules you should know:
- When do you have to pay? The short-term parking zone is in effect from Monday to Friday (weekdays) between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
- How long can you stay? The maximum parking duration is 2 hours. You will need either a traditional paper parking voucher (Parkschein) or the “HANDYPARKEN” app.
- What are the costs? As of 2025, the rates are €1.30 for 30 minutes, €2.60 for one hour, and €5.20 for the full two hours. A quick tip: While the first 15 minutes are free of charge, you must still fill out a free voucher or activate the app!
Important note for Saturdays:
On Saturdays, parking in these districts is generally free and unlimited outside of designated shopping streets. However, be warned: the streets directly adjacent to the Wienzeile are narrow, and the few available spots are highly sought after. Due to the flea market at the southwest end of the Naschmarkt, finding a free spot on a Saturday is particularly challenging.
Option 2: Parking Garages Near the Naschmarkt
To be honest, if you plan on spending more time at the Naschmarkt, parking garages are the most relaxed choice. You avoid the 2-hour limit of the street zones, and your car is parked securely. However, parking in this area is not cheap; in 2025, the average price was approximately €5 per hour. All the following garages are open 24/7 (00:00 to 24:00):
- Naschmarkt Parkgarage: Located at Kühnplatz 1, 1040 Vienna. With only 82 spaces, this garage has a limited capacity, so expect it to fill up quickly during peak times. The maximum entrance height is 2.00 meters. Google map.
- Technische Uni Operngasse Parkgarage: An excellent alternative located at Operngasse 13, 1040 Vienna, at the northern end of the market. With 367 spaces, it is significantly larger than the Naschmarkt garage, offering a much better chance of finding a spot. The maximum entrance height is 2.00 meters. Here is the location on the Google map.
- Technische Uni Lehargasse Parkgarage: Situated in the 6th district at Lehargasse 4, 1060 Vienna. It offers 159 spaces and has a slightly higher entrance clearance of 2.10 meters—useful for larger vehicles. Here is the location on the Google map.
- Windmühlgasse Parkhaus: If the garages closer to the market are full, this is a great option as it has the largest capacity with 453 spaces. It is located at Windmühlgasse 22, 1060 Vienna. The maximum entrance height is 2.00 meters. Here is the location on the Google map.
Personal Recommendation
Personally, I would recommend leaving the car behind and taking the U-Bahn (subway). The Naschmarkt is very well-connected via several lines. This saves you the stress of hunting for a parking spot—and a subway ticket is much cheaper than the parking fees. You can find the best U-Bahn connections for the Naschmarkt here.
